Bensel runs away with another win

Frank Bensel came from three strokes back and won the PGA of America Stroke Play Championship on Tuesday at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The 42-year-old Century assistant closed with a 3-under 69 on the Wanamaker Course, and won by five strokes with a 9-under 279.

He birdied four holes on the front nine to overtake third-round leader Bob Sowards of Dublin, Ohio, who finished in a tie for second place. Bensel earned $5,000 for the win. “It was a tough day but I hit the ball well and kept it in play,” said the White Plains native who’s got four career wins in the PGA Winter Championships.

Rob Labritz, the director of golf at GlenArbor climbed the leaderboard all week, closed with a 69, and moved into a fourth-place tie. He earned $1,600.
